The first step
At Pikolinos, we’ve been walking together for 40 years. And every day there are more of us who make our own path every day as we walk.
But this story wouldn’t be possible without one very special person. A brave individual who, years back, decided to take the hardest step of all: the first one. And that person is Juan Perán.
OUR STEPS, OUR HISTORY.
1984
The birth of Pikolinos
In 1978, in Elche, Juan Perán founded the company: Nueva creación de Perán.
The company was doing well but when the factory burned down in 1984, it was reborn from the ashes as a new brand that would become a global benchmark in quality, comfort and design. This is how Pikolinos got its start.
First brand logos
The duck symbol was chosen to go with the Pikolinos logo because it is comfortable on land, in the water and in the air.
Romana:
star style
Just one year later, the Pikolinos star style hit the market: the Romana. Women’s shoes inspired by Italian fashion. With the Romana, sales went through the roof, opening the doors to the international market.
1989 | Pikolinos first international order
The first international order was from the French chain Besson. And in the following years, more followed from Germany, the Netherlands, Russia and the Nordic countries.
1996 Inauguration
central headquarters
In 1996, Pikolinos opened its central headquarters at the Elche Business Park.
In 1997, Pies Cuadrados was established for leather processing and finishing.
Jerez: iconic style
With its simple lines, Jerez is one of the essential Pikolinos designs, made of top quality raw materials with unique details like their characteristic hand-sewn decorative stitching. Flexible, very comfortable shoes.
First Pikolinos shop | 2002
The brand’s retail adventure began with the first Pikolinos shop, which was a museum/shop to provide an attraction for tourists visiting the Elche area. We also inaugurated the Vabene production center.
New Logo
Changing times meant we needed to update the logo that the company had been using.
2006 | Sales shoot up and Miami offices inaugurated
Expansion took Pikolinos across the pond, so we inaugurated offices and a warehouse in Miami to serve our clients in the United States and streamline logistics in the country.
Fuencarral: another icon
The Fuencarral men’s shoes were a leap forward in Pikolinos design, with their elastic laces, insoles and extra lightweight soles.
2007
Juan Perán Pikolinos Foundation
In 2007, the Juan Perán Pikolinos Foundation was created to channel our social work.
2009 | Online shop launched
The first Pikolinos online shop was launched. The company began its commitment to ecommerce and an active online presence.
Lisboa: unique design
Lisboa is another iconic Pikolinos design, part of the brand’s continued search for innovation and aim to be the top brand in the casual comfort segment of the Spanish market.
Maasai Project and pop up in New York
In 2009, the Juan Perán Pikolinos Foundation launched international projects, including one with the Maasai community in Kenya with the slogan “Another world is possible”. All to help achieve one of Juan Perán’s biggest goals: “to give back part of what society has given him”. Another international project that year was the Pikolinos pop up in New York.
Tarifa: an essential
If one thing sets Pikolinos apart from other footwear brands it is its designs, and Tarifa is one of them. Leather with hand sewn decorative stitching and velcro close for a snug fit.
2015 |First international shop in Rome
Over the following years, expansion continued with the opening of our shop in Rome and our flagship store on Fuencarral in Madrid.
2016
Juan Manuel Perán and Rosana Perán
Juan Perán handed over the reins of the company to his son Juan Manuel Perán and Rosana Perán became vice-president.
2018
Carolina Perán
With international retail expansion, Carolina Perán became the company’s Brand Manager.
Berna: casual style
Berna is a design that stands out, combining elegance and a casual/sporty touch.
First TV campaign | 2019
The first TV campaign kicked off with a commercial featuring a slogan that perfectly reflects the essence of Pikolinos: LIFE IS INTENSE, GET COMFORTABLE.
Cantabria: star style for summer
Sneakers that are still a bestseller, it’s not summer without the Cantabria.
2024
OUR PRESENT: NEW SHOPS AND NEW IMAGE
The present brings us a new logo and new shops. Inspiration from the Mediterranean, its sea breeze and warm sunsets. Based on this premise, we’ve designed this new concept for the Pikolinos shops. A place where rustic elegance combines with modern touches in natural materials such as wood, jute, clay, etc.
OUR FUTURE
This is the end of the road through these 40 years of history, passion and commitment.
The future is very exciting and we hope you’ll continue on this path with us.
And now... GET COMFORTABLE AND LET HAPPINESS START WITH YOUR FEET.
